BMW will start a new chapter in September with the launch of the all-electric iX3, the first model built on the new Neue Klasse platform. The world premiere will take place at the Munich Motor Show, and sales will begin early next year.
This new iX3 will compete directly with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, also debuting in Munich. Both cars will fight for a spot in Europe’s most competitive SUV segment, where electric models are becoming more important due to stricter emission rules.
Big Step Forward in Technology
The second-generation iX3 is based on the futuristic Vision Neue Klasse X concept. It will be sold alongside the current petrol-powered X3, but the electric model comes with a completely new platform. This means thinner batteries, more efficient motors, and a smart computer system that BMW calls a “quantum leap” over current EVs.

Longest Range in the Class
Exact battery size is still secret, but BMW says the new iX3 can drive up to 799 km on a single charge — 338 km more than the previous model. That’s even more than the new Mercedes-Benz CLA EQ (779 km).
With its 800-volt system, the iX3 can charge at up to 400 kW, adding 350 km of range in just 10 minutes at fast chargers.
Power Options and Interior
The iX3 will come in two versions:
- Rear-wheel drive with one motor
- All-wheel drive with two motors and up to 402 hp

Inside, it will be the first BMW with the new iDrive X infotainment system. There’s a large central screen, a full-width head-up display, and no classic buttons — just touch controls, widgets, and improved voice commands. The steering wheel now has four spokes with haptic buttons for key functions.

Retro Design with Modern Touch
The new iX3 takes inspiration from BMW’s 1960s Neue Klasse models. The front will have smaller kidney grilles inside a glossy black panel, with sensors hidden behind it. The shape will be more boxy and sharp, with angular headlights and a slim light bar at the rear.
With its long range, fast charging, and new tech, the 2025 BMW iX3 is aiming to be one of the most advanced electric SUVs on the market.
