Mercedes-Benz is once again teasing fans with a new lighting feature, and this time, it’s bigger than ever. Design chief Gorden Wagener posted a photo on Instagram showing a massive, light-up grille on what looks like a new luxury sedan.
We’ve already seen a similar design on the new GLC with EQ Technology, and the upcoming C-Class EV is expected to have something close. But this new one takes things to another level. The grille looks tall and elegant, giving strong S-Class vibes. It even reminds us of the grilles from classic models like the “Fintail” W112/W113 and the W108/W109 series.

One interesting detail is the illuminated Mercedes three-pointed star hood ornament, a feature once common on all Mercedes models, but now seen only on select trims of the E-Class and S-Class. This could mean we’re looking at the upcoming all-electric S-Class, which will use Mercedes’ new MB.EA platform and replace the slow-selling EQS.
In the GLC, the light-up grille uses 942 LED pixels to recreate the look of older Mercedes grilles. It’s a high-tech way to mix modern design with heritage. Interestingly, while Mercedes is going bigger with grilles, BMW seems to be going the opposite way, as the new Neue Klasse EVs will have smaller, more classic kidney grilles.
Under Wagener’s direction, Mercedes design has become more daring, with huge logos, dramatic lighting, and high-tech interiors filled with screens. The EQ models may not have been a big success, but Mercedes clearly isn’t giving up on bold design. If this teaser really is the next S-Class EV, it looks like the brand’s flagship sedan is going to shine brighter than ever, literally.
