Renault has revealed the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 Concept, a more robust and capable evolution of its modern Renault 4 EV. This latest concept vehicle has been engineered to explore the feasibility of a production-ready all-wheel drive variant, aimed at expanding the model’s appeal beyond urban mobility.
The standout mechanical update is the addition of a second electric motor mounted on the rear axle, transforming the Renault 4 into a permanent all-wheel drive vehicle. Although Renault has not disclosed the power output of this new motor, speculation suggests the possibility of dual 148bhp motors, offering a combined output of up to 296bhp.

To enhance its off-road capabilities, Renault has increased the vehicle’s ground clearance by 15mm and widened the track by 20mm at both the front and rear. The Savane rides on 18-inch wheels, unique to this concept, and is equipped with Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ tyres designed for challenging conditions. These changes reflect a clear intent to position the Savane as a capable off-road companion.

In addition, the concept has been fitted with redesigned bump stops that are 3D-printed and incorporate shock-absorbing properties for improved performance over rough terrain. Renault claims the vehicle is designed for use on muddy, snow-covered, and unpaved routes, aligning with its vision of appealing to the so-called “modern-day gentleman explorer.”

The vehicle was officially presented at the Roland Garros French Open, a fittingly high-profile stage for a car aimed at adventurous yet sophisticated buyers. It features a distinctive Jade Green exterior finish and a patterned fabric roof, while the interior is clad in brown upholstery complemented by retro-inspired houndstooth seat inserts.

A homage to the original adventure-spec Renault 4 bearing the Savane name, this 4×4 concept demonstrates Renault’s potential direction for expanding its EV lineup. While currently a design study, the concept’s clear focus on off-road capability and distinctive styling suggests a production version could resonate strongly with buyers seeking a compact electric SUV with genuine versatility.
