Toyota GR GT

Toyota’s long-promised supercar has arrived. The new GR GT is the first front-engine performance model from Gazoo Racing without Toyota badges, built as a road-legal machine with clear racing DNA.

The GR GT debuted at Toyota’s Woven City near Fuji Speedway. It comes in two forms: the production model and a GT3 race version, developed side by side under the direct control of Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda.

The car uses an all-aluminum structure, the first of its kind for the company. Aluminum castings, extrusions, and carbon-reinforced panels keep the target weight under 3858 pounds. At 188.4 inches long with a wheelbase of 107.3 inches, it’s a large two-seater with a classic front-mid-engine layout.

Under the long hood sits an all-new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with dry-sump lubrication. It works with an electric motor to deliver a combined target output of 641 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. Official figures may rise as development continues. Top speed is expected to exceed 199 mph.

The drivetrain is built around a complex rear transaxle. The V8 sends power through a carbon-fiber torque tube to an eight-speed automatic with a wet clutch. The gearbox sits behind the rear axle, helping the GR GT achieve a 45:55 weight balance. Power then reaches the wheels through a limited-slip differential.

Suspension is double wishbone front and rear, with forged aluminum arms. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes are standard, and the car rides on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Toyota focused heavily on stability and control, offering multi-stage settings for traction and stability systems. Akio Toyoda, driving as “Morizo,” was deeply involved in testing.

Design takes cues from high-end performance machines, shaped by aerodynamic needs. Large vents in the fenders and rear bumper manage airflow and cooling. Inside, the cabin remains simple and driver-focused with a digital cluster, a central touchscreen, and physical controls for key functions.

Pricing and exact market positioning are not yet confirmed, but the GR GT clearly enters the arena of top-tier performance cars with a strong mix of racing engineering and everyday usability.
